GameInformer got to try out NBA 2K14 and have confirmed the changes fans are going to experience in the game. Reddit fans have been quick to provide their feedback.
First off, 2K Sports has made a few updates to its presentation. Commentary has been improved with more lines and better dialogue tracking to minimize repeating lines. They have also added 500 new songs, improved ambience and crowd reactions, and new stat overlays, called Scoring Breakdown and Hustle Stats.
Perhaps the most significant changes come in the controls, called ProStick. Whereas shooting used to be activated with the left trigger and the right analog stick, now shooting and dribbling are all exclusively on the right analog. Dribbling itself stays unchanged, and it is by holding the analog in a particular direction that you can activate the shot stick. The left trigger now activates stylish passes and a new deny system for defensive plays.
Pick and rolls are the 2nd mechanic that received the most changes. The call for pick and roll button has been moved to the B/circle button, and rotating of pick and rolls has been improved thanks to an anonymous coach. They have also reworked blocking and how plays are usable.
Other changes include emphasizing free agency in Association Mode, and returning five-on-five online multiplayer with an enhanced Crews Mode.
Some Redditors have sounded off on the changes. There is some concern that the new control scheme for dribbling and shooting might be bad. On the flip side, camdide is glad rotations have been revamped. Overall, however, there is some skepticism that they will even feel the changes when the game actually releases. NBA 2K14 will be available October 1 on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, and is coming in the future to Playstation 4 and Xbox One.
