One of the most difficult features to recreate in video games is body-to-body contact. Often, characters in even current-generation titles struggle to just reach out and actually touch another anything living, and 2K Games realizes that this can’t be an issue in a sports game with so much contact. NBA 2K14, which will be launching on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 Oct. 1 in North America and Oct. 4 in Europe, has just received a short clip via community leader Ronnie2K that showcases an impressive dunk (with plenty of player resistance) by cover athlete and Miami Heat star, LeBron James.
Right off the bat, it’s difficult to deny just how pretty the current-gen versions of the game look. The fluidity of James’ movement, as well as his ability to score big with a man right in his face, is top notch. True fans of the series will likely hold their anticipation for what’s to be seen on the Xbox One and PS4, but it would be a mistake to discount what looks to be the most technically proficient basketball game to date.
It’ll also be a mechanical improvement, or at least that’s what 2K Games hopes. Everything about the dribbling, shooting, and blocking has been revamped to create a fresh NBA experience, and many of the lucky players who have been able to test it all out seem to enjoy the stride this developer is taking. NBA 2K14 is almost here, and we’ll likely get more solid next-generation dates before too long.
