Killzone: Mercenary is getting the rave reviews it needs, and may just be the quality FPS the Playstation Vita fans have been waiting for. To coincide with its pending release this September 10, Guerrilla Games has enlisted Nomads to make them a web-based companion app.
A few words about the game itself. This Killzone will be a genuinely unique entry in the series, as it has you playing mercenary Arran Danner. Arran will work for either ISA or Helghast, but when he takes on an escort mission that forces him to protect the life of an ambassador’s boy, he starts to question his motives.
While all that drama plays itself out, you go out earning cash, allowing you to buy your weapons and equipment. With 9 main missions, 27 groups of objectives in Contracts mode, and of course, a similarly revamped multiplayer, this isn’t just a noteworthy new game for the Vita, but an interesting entry in the Killzone series.
The Killzone companion app will be available online, whether you’re on PC, tablet or smartphone. You can track and analyze your progress in depth with the app, giving you more ways of interacting with the game when you’re not playing it. Of course, the Vita has its own browser, and you can always look up your account there, too.
Companion apps certainly are not for everyone, but that’s like saying Killzone or the Vita is not for everyone. Nomads has worked on Killzone’s apps and online presence since the first three games, so this is just as much a step forward for them as it is for the game itself. If you’re getting the game, it would not hurt you at all to give this a whirl as well.
