Ubisoft has revealed that they are starting a new series of competitive gaming events intended to draw out more fans to get into competitive gaming, called ‘The Next Level.’ They are holding their first tournaments at the upcoming PAX Prime.
Interestingly enough, Ubisoft’s line of thinking is not necessarily to sponsor a new gaming team, or to create a new competitive scene around one of their games, although they certainly would not lack for worthy titles. Instead, Ubi wants gamers of all skill levels to join in, and presumably to level the playing field for people who actually do it for a living and possible beginners.
So, with this in mind, they are organizing the tournaments around unreleased games. In particular, they will be holding competitions for Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag, The Crew, Just Dance 2014, Rayman Legends, and The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot. Developers will actually be there on the floor talking to the players, sharing tips and stories on making the games.
From August 30 to September 2, fans who pass by Ubi’s PAX Prime booth (Number 632) between 10 AM to 6 PM can join in. Names will be drawn to select contestants, and players can compete to get prizes such as t-shirts, gift cards, etc. Everyday there will be a grand prize of a trip for two to the New York Comic-con.
The event certainly sounds like fun, and more a way to help promote the games than an actual attempt at competition, but maybe Ubi figured out this was a better way to hold live events. We’ll see where they go with this if the first one turns out to be a success. Check out the hype video below:
