Rumors were swirling not long after the release of Dead Space 3 that the series wouldn’t continue due to missed projections. The series had established both a fanbase and a unique blend of mechanics, but its publisher just expected more from one of its key franchises. However, EA Labels boss Frank Gibeau is here to say that there’s still plenty of hope for the horror franchise – even if there’s nothing too substantial to report on future projects at this time.
“No, it's not out of rotation," Gibeau told CVG when asked about the series. "I mean, I'm not announcing anything right now, but I will say we had a great trilogy of games and we still have faith in that franchise.
"Dead Space is something that we're very proud of. We are not making any public announcements on what we're doing with the next Dead Space, but we definitely have a great set of IPs to pull out of the vault."
With the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One just around the corner, the many teams under the EA banner are busy crafting next-gen projects hoping to find a way into the launch window. Even with a trusty collection of studios, the publisher isn’t looking to invest in dozens and dozens of games at one time.
"The worst thing you can do as a company is try too many things at once," he said.
We just saw the Dead Space trilogy come to a close, so don’t expect to hear anything new until after 2013.
