Wintergore shares a new Battlefield 4 gameplay video revealing details for the Recon class, including changes in the game as a whole as well as those specific for the class.
Wintergore’s setup is the SRR-61, or the Intervention, 8x laser scope with angled grip and tri beam laser, a compact .45 pistol, recon balls, and C4.
He compares the SRR-61 to the M98B, doing equal damage, but occupying less of the screen. It does not quite do one shot kills. However, it’s good for taking out wounded opponents. You can also ping enemies with it to signal to your teammates where they are.
In terms of overall changes, running drops your accuracy, simulating the feeling of getting tired. At this state, you’ll want to hit enemies at the chest. Recon also benefits from lower suppression fire from Engineer and Assault classes. This changes gameplay up in such a way that you can hit at targets from farther away better than other classes are supposed to be able to.
Getting back to Recon-specific changes, quick scope and no scoping will not work for you, so you’re better off sticking to your element of medium and long range targets. Trees will sway when weather changes, so you will have to adapt when taking shelter or hiding.
Given that Recon is lightly armed, you can do jumps and even vault between buildings. Wintergore recounts he was able to actually do just that from the balcony, in a map where the buildings were close enough. It is comparable to similar mechanics in Mirror’s Edge.
The game’s cover mechanic works like this; when you are under cover, a prompt will come up to right click to peek, allowing you to pop up a little bit to look for and hit targets. This will make you less maneuverable.
Finally, Recon class gets access to all class weapons, such as carbines, which could potentially expand their role.
