Following the critical success of Switch Galaxy on Playstation Mobile, Atomicom went to the official Playstation blog to announce that they are now developing Switch Galaxy Ultra for the Playstation Vita and the Playstation 4.
Originally an endless racer on Android simply called Switch, Atomicom adapted the game into Switch Galaxy to Playstation Mobile with timed levels and d-pad controls. The core gameplay remains very simple: move left and right across four lanes to avoid obstacles and pick up items. On both Android and Playstation Mobile, the game looks stunning, and the level of detail is conspicuous even as your ship hits breakneck speeds.
For its upgrade to dedicated game consoles, Switch Galaxy Ultra will upgrade to 60 FPS, get 6 upgradeable player ships, 55 levels, multiplayer crossplay, leaderboards and achievements. Graphical improvements are coming to the HUD, frontend, and scenery, with planetary objects and phenomena now occupying the background. Darren Douglas, who did work on the likes of Judge Dredd and Wipeout, is adding comic book themed scenes to accompany the game, including an intro. Atomicom is also talking to some DJs to get some great licensed music for the game.
Atomicom is actually made of some developers who worked on the original Wipeout games, so this is a homecoming of sorts. There’s no denying the Wipeout-like look of the ships, although clearly Switch Galaxy Ultra is a completely different animal.
On another end, Atomicom is helping a disabled children’s charity called Caudwell Children with the game, and have a ship dedicated for them. A portion of the game’s sales is going to the charity.
