When it comes to bootleg consoles, they can be found online easily. Just looking over Amazon using the search term “retro video games” will bring up pages of bootleg devices that mimic classic edition official releases to handhelds. All sports hundreds of video games that also mimic past devices like the Nintendo Game Boy. However, these consoles are usually poorly loaded with ROMs that are illegally included and often times they are not really worth the purchase to begin with.
With that said, it was quite interesting to see a rap artist to get into the video game industry. After his announcement, we were shown off similar style devices that again sported several retro video game console titles. These devices were quickly bought by critics and retro video game collectors online to see just what this device would be like, and as you likely expect, they were not all that favorable. It was clear that these devices were not going to be around very long as the rightful owners of the video game title IPs would be sending out lawsuits and that’s likely what was starting to happen.

In a recent Tweet from the official Soulja Boy account, we learned that the consoles were essentially forced down from being sold on his website. We expect that these consoles may still be available through other retailers like other retro-themed video game devices. At any rate, if you were interested in a device but haven’t seen what they can actually do then take a look at our Before You Buy episode posted up above. Likewise, let us know if you purchased a unit or if you have similar bootleg video game devices by leaving a comment down below.
