During E3 a Zenimax developer of The Elder Scrolls Online stated during a GameSpot interview that players move at 6.5 m/s with there being nine zones in the province of Cyrodiil, each of which is three kilometers from one side to the other.
Now Redditors have calculated the length of time it would take to cross that distance. Seeing as the game world measures 27 kilometers from one end to the other, a quick calculations shows that 27,000 meters devided by 6.5 to give the number of seconds comes to roughly 4153.9.
Dividing this figure by 60 shows that it takes a little over an hour – 69 minutes to be precise – to cross the entirety of Cyrodiil. Given that this is for just one province of Tamriel players will almost certainly have to rely on fast travel to get from one region to another.
While most provinces are smaller than Cyrodill a rough calculation suggests navigating across the entire map – and crossing every province in the process – would take over 500 minutes or 8.3 hours. However, Cyrodiil is likely around 10 kilometers from east to west. suggesting you could traverse the distance from one side of the map to the other in around one hour, 45 minutes.
That's assuming you can walk in a straight line which is unlikely.
The Elder Scrolls Online launches on PS4, Xbox One and PC in 2014.
