Some new interesting details regarding the much awaited game, Max Payne 3, have surfaced via the latest issue of Edge Magazine. Rockstar seems to be taking its with the this iteration in the series, maybe because Max Payne 2 which was a critically acclaimed and top rated pc game, didn't sell well for some reason. The info below reveal some key features like the return of the signature "comic style narrative panels" in an updated format & Bullet time.
- Vancouver, London, Toronto, and New England Rockstar studios are all cooperating on this title.
- Max is working for some guy named Rodrigo Branco in Sao Paulo, and for his two brothers, a politician and a "party-loving dropout".
- The story will be a bit non-linear, description of Max in Brazil with a full head of hair at a money drop for a kidnapping. Seems the story will go back and forward in time, possibly in New York, his early time in Brazil, and him in the gutter, bald later on.
- In the stadium/kidnapping mission, Max is partnered with a guy named Passos.
- The comic style panels return, sorta. Here's how it's described: Now instead of comic book frames, these dramatic plot pointers use the in-game engine and show an animated collage of action footage, similar to 24.
- Multiple set piece encounters, including a Mona-style sniper rifle escort bit.
- They did a lot of Mocap for this game. Lots of animations and stuff, apparently looks quite impressive.
- Bullet time is charged by killing enemies. BT is very detailed.
- Max can hold three single handed weapons at once and dual wield two different weapons at the same time.
- Pop out and shoot cover mechanic as well besides BT and Shoot-dodge.
- Uses Euphoria, which is awesome. Very natural animations for Max and his enemies.
- Wheel-based weapon selection system.
- Inner Circle may return – some plot threads from previous games work their way into this sequel. Max has been expelled from NYC.
