Konami has shown off PES 2014, explaining their use of the FOX Engine and new Trueball technology, two months ago. Now we have a host of screenshots that give us a better look at the level of detail and realism the game boasts.
First, several screenshots show in order, players Ronaldinho, Andrea Pirlo and Gianluigi Buffon.
These shots also show UEFA Champions League team FC Bayern Munich.
These screenshots show off the game's Motion Animation Stability System (M.A.S.S.), which will improve the way the game simulates player physics. Between M.A.S.S. for the players and TrueBall physics for the ball, these two elements will be calculated and rendered by the game separately.
Eurogamer's preview has glowing comments on the new system. While he says FIFA has kept him mostly satisfied, he's been won over by the freshness PES brings. Basically, Konami has started over from scratch with the franchise, leapfrogging potential issues with how to make older game conventions work. He found that all the changes they've made gameplay wise, such as enemy AI, movement, etc, comes together overall better than anything EA has come up with so far. They also mention Konami has pulled off making a new batch of unique animations for each player, and have been able to capture individual and even team personalities.
I dare say, I find that the graphics are all very competitive to EA's Ignite engine, and their recent FIFA screenshots, but maybe that's just me. After years of unfavorable comparisons to its high budget rival, PES may finally come into its own this year. You can judge for yourself by looking at all the screenshots below:
