In a Reddit AMA last night creative director Neil Druckmann revealed that The Last of Us' DLC will feature returning characters and said the studio was originally divided on the game's ending.
Initially, Naughty Dog planned for a much happier ending than the one that made it into the final game.
The first ending saw "Ellie and Joel were driving completely contented and satisfied with their adventures off into a glorious sunset," game director Bruce Straley noted. "But that didn't feel right.
"It just wasn't honest to the world or the characters we created," he continued. "This ending," the one that made it into the final game, "felt right for us… [we had] about three or four ideas before finding the ending that worked best for the story we wanted to tell."
Despite this, Druckmann says that some members of the development team were uneasy with the ending that ultimately made it into the game.
The final conclusion "didn't sit well with some members of the team. Once it was more fleshed out, it became an easier sell."
At PAX Prime later this month the duo promised to reveal some of the cut plans for The Last of Us' ending and said that details of the game's first DLC will also be revealed later this month.
Straley confirmed that returning characters will make an appearance in the single player DLC.
Those who picked up the game's season pass will be entitled to two multiplayer packs as well as the story based add-on.
