WonFes, or Wonder Festival, is always a showcase of the latest hobbyist figures and toys of characters from popular manga, anime, visual novel, video games and other popular media. This year, Nintendo characters had a surprising presence, with two stunning figures coming soon.
First off, Good Smile Company's Max Factory brought with them their latest Fire Emblem: Awakening figure, "Marth", in the figma line. Unlike the Tharja figure released earlier, Marth appears to have articulation in the shoulders, and less conspicuous cuts around the shoes. Given that the figure also comes with its own stand, it looks like they're planning to make this a fully articulated figure, which is definitely a cool choice and one that fits with the character's design and story. Nothing for sure as we've yet to see the figure take a different pose yet. We're not even sure if the sword can be removed from its holster.
In the context of the game Fire Emblem: Awakening, "Marth" appears mysteriously to spar with, and later assist lead character Chrom. However, Marth is not who Marth appears to be. I'm purposely omitting spoilers here for those of you who still haven't played the game, but I think you will be excited when you find out this character's big secret, which I hope also gets represented in toy form.
The other big figure does not have as big a secret, but is also a welcome revelation: a new Medicom Link, based on The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.
Skyward Sword link gets the full Medicom treatment, from using actual cloth for Link's shirt, pants, and other clothing, the accurate chainmail the finite attention to detail, to full poseability and wonderfully accurate sword and shield accessories. Link brandishes an angry face here, but we of course expect Medicom to supply alternate heads, if not even more accessories.
Link is a character who needs no introduction. Skyward Sword Link is a famously older incarnation of the character than what we've gotten used to, and he was also rendered in one of the most graphically impressive The Legend of Zelda games to date.
From what we've seen so far, these figures won't be disappointing fans. You can check out more images of the Zelda figure below.
