Forza 5 will be unplayable without a day-one download, says its developers at Turn 10. The studio revealed today that players will have to initiate a download for Forza 5 after installing Forza 5 onto their hard drives, as the game will not be in a complete state upon its installation.
Think that sounds strange? We think so too. According to the developers, the download is mandatory because of content added late in the game's production schedule.
"When you first boot up the game we're going to ask you to log in, and when you log in you're going to get a whole bunch of content: tracks and cars," said Dan Greenawalt, the studio head of Turn 10 Studios in an interview with IGN. "That is required content to play the game."
Effectively, what this means is that players will not be able to play the game unless they have an internet connection.
Greenawalt added that it will also be necessary to connect to the internet to get the latest "Driveatars", or ghost AI drivers, "because we need as many people training them as possible. And so rather than having just a launch-day set that was created by us, every day that people race is going to make the Drivatar set that much more accurate, that much more diverse, that much more interesting."
