There will be a new Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 champion this year at EVO 2013.
Last year's champion, Filipino Champ, was eliminated in the Losers Bracket by Zero, Vergil, Dante player Cloud805. The crowd was seemingly against Champ the entire time, as his Phoenix remains an unpopular choice by viewers (not to mention he was last year's winner). Many considered his use of Phoenix to be a liability though, and said he was better off using Dormammu instead. The come-back factor of Phoenix is great (some argue overpowered), but it comes with a big risk. FChamp was visibly upset by the loss, but the crowd went absolutely insane.
A similar audience reaction was seen when Justin Wong eliminated ChrisG from the UMvC3 tournament. ChrisG's use of Morrigan has been extremely dominant in tournaments across America and was thought to have the odds in his favor. In a first to 3 fight, ChrisG was actually beating Justin 2 to zero. Those that are familiar with Justin Wong will know, however, that you never count him out. Justin came back in a nail biting third match and overcame his deficit with some amazing Storm play. The set ended with a tense Vergil (Chris) vs. Akuma (Justin) showdown that ended in a time out in Wong's favor.
With two of the top contenders out of the tournament, it'll be exciting to see who will be crowned as the 2013's UMvC3 champion.
