The Kingdom Hearts franchise may be getting its third main installment next year but there’s a wide selection of spinoff titles available. This has created a narrative that’s a bit filled to the brim making it difficult for players to jump into the series if they hadn’t already invested the time to enjoy most of the past video game releases. As a result, there could be a few players hesitant in picking up Kingdom Hearts 3 when it hit store shelves next year.
Luckily for both veterans and newcomers, Square Enix had thought ahead and incorporated backstory to catch everyone back up. It doesn’t look like the entire history will be told for players but the developers will instead give players just enough to understand the overall narrative.
This news comes from an interview between VG247 and Tetsuya Nomura, the Kingdom Hearts director. During the talk, Tetsuya unveiled that there would be an assortment of videos to help bring new players into Kingdom Hearts 3 without having to go back and play the earlier titles.
“We have included several elements in Kingdom Hearts 3 to explain the story and get newcomers up to speed the minimum required level of understanding, including a series of videos to explain the story so far at the start of the game. I would be delighted if people who played Kingdom Hearts 3 took an interest in the series overall and went back to play the previous games as well.”
The interview also went on to explain some of the choices made in the level design and how developers are able to render the worlds with details that were impossible in the previous video game titles. All-in-all, Kingdom Hearts 3 looks to be a game that will bring in plenty of players when it officially launches for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on January 29, 2019.
