Okay, it's a marketing ploy for Watch_Dogs and no doubt Ubisoft had all the necessary permissions but nonetheless they've released a rather cool app in Canada which enabled users to 'hack' an ATM in a shopping mall distributing $3,000 to members of the public.
Ubisoft has now released a video in which Dedsec – a community of hackers supposedly responsible for the ATM breach – show off what happened when the cash began spewing out of the machine.
At the end of the short video we're told "further announcements will follow".
This isn't the first creative piece of marketing for Watch_Dogs. Fans in Paris, London and Berlin are able to use the WeareData website to access information on CCTV cameras, infastructure links, local crime statistics and more – it's all part of Ubisoft's plan to show how connected everything is these days.
Of course, Ubisoft ought to know a thing or two about hacking; earlier this month their Uplay service was accessed and the company recommended users change their passwords as a precaution.
Watch_Dogs is set to be released for PS3, PS4, PC, Wii U, Xbox 360 and Xbox One later this year. Hopefully they'll expand their innovative marketing efforts before then to other countries and cities – notably Chicago, where the game is set.
