Operation Supply Drop announced the success of Pixel Fireworks today, the codename for their 4th of July donation drive. Twelve packages, with an accumulated value of approximately $ 30,000, were successfully delivered to six members of the troops stationed in Afghanistan, including one soldier recovering from injuries in Walter Reed National Military Hospital.
This time, they were enable to enlist Wizards of the Coast to provide them Magic:The Gathering cards to each of the soldiers, as they say as many cards as they could squeeze into a care package. This was also the first time they received donations from Sega of America getting game and gear for Aliens: Colonial Marines, Sonic Generations and The Cave. Consoles delivered were three 250 GB Xbox 360s, one Wifi Vita, one 60 GB and one 250 GB PS3.
Games delivered include copies of Call of Duty, Battlefield, Madden, Halo 4, Orange Box, Left 4 Dead, Assassins Creed, Dead Island, Super Street Fighter IV, Need For Speed, Dance Dance Revolution, Resident Evil, Prototype, Reality Fighters, Gravity Rush, Uncharted, Wipeout, MLB, and Amazing Spider-Man. Valve was particularly generous to provide download codes for all their games.
They were also sent a substantial amount of gear, including ASTRO headsets, wireless controllers, DVDs, copies of Game Informer, shirts and caps.
Operation Supply Drop was founded in 2010 by Army Airborne Ranger Captain Stephen "Shanghai Six" Machuga as a 501c3 nonprofit, endeavoring to deliver video game bundles to soldiers in combat zones and recovering in hospitals. They have been able to raise as much as $ 300,000 in video game donations to 1,500 US soldiers around the globe.
