Doom Eternal Will Not Support Mods At Launch

August 14, 2018 by Dennis Patrick

Looks like we may not see mod support for Doom Eternal.

When it comes to the Doom games, the franchise has received its fair share of mods from the community. However, it looks like this latest installment will not be supporting any mods when it officially launches. This announcement comes from the game director, Marty Stratton, of id Software when the studio held a Q&A session at QuakeCon 2018.

Doom Eternal was fully unveiled during QuakeCon 2018 where players finally got to see some actual gameplay footage for the upcoming FPS. From the looks of things, we can expect a brutal campaign full of slaughtering down demons that come your way. There are even some new enemies and weaponry included into the mix, though we’re sure that even more reveals for the game will be presented in the future.

After the reveal, id Software held a Q&A session for those who attended and the question came up on if this upcoming title will support mods. As it turns out the studio had made some drastic technical changes a number of years ago that has really prevented the ability to support mods. With that said, the developers are actively trying to get back to the point where mod support will be available in the future.

“We had made some technical decisions way back that just pushed us in a different direction than mods. We have spent the last several years making technical decisions that get us back towards being able to do mods.”

So far the developers are looking to bring back support in the future but it certainly won’t be around when Doom Eternal launches. Currently, Doom Eternal does not have a release date set but it will be launching on the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and lastly the PC platform.
