My childhood was built on a strong foundation of Dragon Ball Z. Most of the free space in my head was filled with facts about Saiyans, Namekians, and the importance of a well-timed Senzu Bean break. I’d call it a bit of an unhealthy addiction, and the fact that we get a new DBZ game almost on an annual basis makes it a bit difficult to let go of the anime mainstay. Thanks to Namco Bandai, we won’t be going without a heaping helping of Kamehamehas and pointy-eared green men for too long, as Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z is planned for release in the near future.
A slew of new screenshots have been released for the brawler that showcase a handful of recognizable characters, a creative artstyle, and most importantly, the new focus on cooperative battles. Unlike previous games where the featured attraction was one-on-one brawls, Battle of Z is being described as a “team melee battler” where fans can either participate in four-player co-op mode or an eight-player battle royale. This should help the game emulate the massive scope that the show so often pushed in the past, as well as showcase the dozens of characters that will be playable in the game.
This isn’t that silly Kinect game that had you flailing your arms around like a drunken Krillin. Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z is looking to capture the spirit of the now-legendary anime on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PlayStation Vita. Look to hear more about a solid release date soon.
