Bethesda has revealed new information about The Elder Scrolls Online in a blog post on game's website entitled 'Inside ESO Dungeons'.
Talking about skills and enemies within the game the post reads, "In many MMORPGs, players are locked into performing one role in a group, whether they focus on damaging enemies, keeping their allies in the fight, or drawing the attention of enemies away from more vulnerable characters.
"These roles are still important for a successful dungeon group in The Elder Scrolls Online, but our open-ended skill system gives you much more flexibility. With the right combination of weapons and abilities, you can change your role on the fly to support your group's needs."
The blog then gives the example of your group's healer being knocked out during a boss battle. Your character can then swap a two-handed sword in the middle of combat for a restoration staff which will activate your second hotbar – assuming you've placed some healing abilities in this second hotbar you can take on the role of healing your other party members.
Players are warned that monsters will actively attack dungeon groups and that it's not realistic to have your tank take on all of your opponents alone. They advise taking on one enemy at a time in order to cut through each foe faster before your group runs out of magicka and stamina.
Each group should bring at least one character who can heal along for the ride but each member of a group should ideally have some knowledge of healing to lower the need for a dedicated healer.
The tank character won't be the only one to take damage either. You'll have to keep an eye on how all of your group members are doing in battle and see to it that each of them is healed as needed. To reduce the need for healing you can dodge and evade attacks.
Tanks should make it their business to stun enemy healers and interrupt their spellcasters as they are the best equipped for the role. While tanks can rotate between weaker enemies, bosses and such will require their full attention as tanks can absorb damage that might kill weaker group members.
Enemies are described as having a 'pack mentality'. Once one enemy in a dungeon is attacked all other enemies will be alerted and move to fight back but some will not engage immediately unless your group gets too close.
Dungeons are described as some of "toughest challenges in The Elder Scrolls Online".
The game is set to be released in 2014 for PS4, Xbox One and PC and you can currently sign up to the beta which PS4 owners will have early access to.
