The Xbox Live Games With Gold Continues with the next free game, Defense Grid.
During the first and second half of each month, Microsoft will give Xbox Live subscribers a free title (of Microsoft's choice) to download for a limited time. Unlike PlayStation Plus, games downloaded from the Games With Gold promotion will remain playable even if your subscription for Xbox Live expires.
But unlike PlayStation Plus, Xbox Live users only have until the 16th and end of each month to download the offered game. Once the promotion period for each game ends, users can no longer download the title for free. During June, subscribers could download Fable 3 for free from the Xbox Live Marketplace.
Disappointingly, Microsoft promised that July's offerings would include Halo 3 and Assassin's Creed 2. His blog post details this month's free game but also provides no explanation for the missing Assassin's Creed 2 and Halo 3 downloads.
According to Major Nelson, players will instead get Defense Grid: The Awakening – a tower defense game priced at 800 Microsoft points.
