Yatagarasu is a 2D fighting game, emphasizing accessible gameplay and featuring a dynamic real time commentary system. Originally released for PCs in Japan, Nicalis signed up for a localization and 3DS eShop release roughly a year ago, but the game has remained in development.

Now, the game's creators, former SNK staff members Shiza, Kotani, and Umezono, have partnered with Nyu Media to launch an Indiegogo campaign to create the sequel, Yatagarasu Attack on Cataclysm, in partnership with publisher Nyu Media.
In their indiegogo pitch, the creators explain they made the original game, and are working on the sequel, with limited funds. They decided to go the crowdfunding route to enable them to speed up the development process. Under Flexible Funding Rules, they will be able to collect promised funds even if they do not meet the initial funding goal of $ 68,000.
The funding will be spent on additional features and assets, and if necessary, the team will make up for any shortfall with extra development time.
If fully funded, they will be able to add 2 new characters, create a complete English localization, as well as an arcade version to be made available via NESiCAxLive. They also feature an actual breakdown of the cost of each of these and other funding goals.
Additional stretch goals include even more characters, European language localizations, a comic, and worldwide promotional expenses.
In the meantime, UK company Rice Digital, which specializes in indie Japanese games, has made a partially localized version of the original game available outside Japan.
Yatagarasu Attack on Cataclysm is planned for a PC release. Of course, this whole campaign is reminiscent of another fighting game, the now famous Skullgirls. You can read our coverage of that game's succesful crowdfund for DLC character Squigly here.
