State of Decay, the immensely popular zombie survival title on XBLA will not be coming to Australia after the country's Classification Board questioned the depiction of drug use in the game.
Developer Undead Labs revealed the ban on the game's forums and commented "State of Decay has been refused classification by the Australian Classification Board (ACB). We've run afoul of certain prohibitions regarding the depiction of drug use. We're working with Microsoft to come up with option, including changing names of certain medications in the game to comply with ratings requirements. Whatever our path forward, it's going to take a bit.
"I know this is frustrating – believe me, we're frustrated too – but each country has the right to set its own rules about content, and it's our responsibility to comply with them. Rest assured we'll do everything we can to get the game into your hands. Stay tuned."
State of Decay is the second game to be banned under Australia's new game classification rules. Yesterday, Saints Row 4 was also denied by the ACB due to an alien anal probe (yes, you read that correctly) and the country will be getting a toned down version of the game as a result.
The game may be released on Xbox One in the future but possibly not in Australia.
