Just because a game is a hit in North America, that doesn’t mean it will find a significant audience in other territories. Call of Duty is the hottest piece of gaming software in these parts, but the whole machismo, military shooter thing just isn’t what people are looking for in Asia. However, it looks as if Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us struck some sort of chord with the Land of the Rising Sun, as it’s debuted in the number one spot this week.
NeoGaf has posted the Media Create Sales for the week of June 17, and according to the numbers, The Last of Us pushed a little more than 117,000 units since launching on the PlayStation 3 in Japan. That’s an impressive figure, and more than double the sales of any other current game on the list. Uncharted 3 had just a slightly better start in Japan, but still, for a Western game that launched in the summer, The Last of Us is in a good spot.
