The Last of Us, the newest game from Naughty Dog, has launched at the top of the UK charts. In fact, UKIE reports that The Last of Us is the third fastest selling game of the year, after Tomb Raider and BioShock Infinite. It's also the first “all formats” number one that Sony has managed since Uncharted: Golden Abyss, which was primarily developed by another studio but which of course comes from the series for which Naughty Dog is known. As far as new IPs are concerned, The Last of Us is the biggest launch since L.A. Noire back in 2011.
Second place in the UK charts is also occupied by a new release: Animal Crossing: New Leaf. The latest game in the Animal Crossing series has managed the biggest 3DS launch since Mario Kart 7, and the biggest 3DS launch ever for a game that doesn't have Mario in it. As always, it's impressive for a game only available on one platform to make it so high up the charts, but then UK retail hasn't been doing particularly well recently so it's perhaps not as impressive as it would be otherwise.
The rest of the top ten looks similar to last week, with Grid 2 down from first to third thanks to the new entries, Tomb Raider climbing up to fourth thanks to a price promotion, and FIFA 13 in fifth. Another new entry has almost made it into the top ten, however: Rugby Challenge 2: Lions Tour launches at number twelve.
