Paradox Interactive has today announced the release date of Europa Universalis 4 which is August 23rd 2013 for PC, Mac and Linux.
The game's pre-order trailer, which you can see below, includes pretty much everything you'd expect from a strategy game wtih naval and land based battles, trade, exploration and a host of other genre staples.
The game's tagline reads "Bring civilization out of the darkness" which would seem to suggest that the game stretches from the Dark Ages right up to the Age of Enlightenment which would be consistent with EU3.
According to Paradox "Europa Universalis IV gives you control of a nation to guide it through the years and create a dominant global empire in the age of exploration, providing unprecedented freedom through the use of exploration, trade, warfare and diplomacy to let you rule your nation however you see fit."
And Paradox do mean global, virtually the entire world can be explored and conquered. They're also doing their bit to encourage broad multiplayer support for the title with 32 player matches included in the title.
It's shaping up to be a good summer for strategy fans with Company of Heroes 2, Civilization V: Brave New World and Total War: Rome II all on the way as well.
