On its blog today, Sony has a new trailer for its upcoming arty game Rain, along with some more information about the game. The trailer is worth a watch just for the art style, with the constant rain pouring onto sopping streets in the dimly lit night. But it also provides more clues as to the story and how the game is played.
For those who haven't seen or heard anything about Rain yet, it's a game in which you play as a young boy who has somehow become invisible. Both the player and the other creatures in the game can only see the boy when the constant rain is highlighting his outline. It sounds bleak, but his ability to turn invisible by hiding from the rain under cover gives him an advantage, letting him hide from pursuers.
He also isn't the only person afflicted with this condition. The game seems to revolve around his pursuit of a young girl, also only visible in the rain. In this trailer, we learn that although – as we've seen before – the boy often misses the girl as she slips away into the night, the pair do eventually meet and are able to work together to escape from the ghostly monsters and find ways through each environment. It seems like the kind of game that would work well in cooperative play, but then it seems like the boy spends a lot of time alone at the start so maybe not.
Rain will be playable at E3, and will launch for PS3 some time after.
