Indie developer Jonathan Blow has released a new trailer on the PlayStation Blog for The Witness as well as a developer diary for the title which was showcased at the PlayStation 4's announcement event in February.
As part of the Conversations with Creators series Sony has been running with the developers of PS4 titles Blow revealed "The open-world aspect of the design is important. It means you have freedom in terms of where you go and what puzzles you choose to approach right now. At any time you can just stop what you're doing, turn around and go somewhere else, and the game world has plenty of new things to show you."
Blow added that all of the puzzles in The Witness are designed to be flexible and it seems players will not have to complete one puzzle in order to move onto the next.
"We are looking forward to delivering you the best game we can make, and we are working hard at this every day" the developer concluded.
It's notable that Blow was not paid by Sony for The Witness' timed exclusivity and the latest update on the game comes amid criticism of Microsoft and the Xbox One's approach to indie developers. It has been revealed that game makers will not be able to self-publish on Xbox One while Phil Fish, the creator of Fez, has commented "Let me tell you something: most indies I know already don't want to publish on a Xbox console. Publisher or no publisher."
Indie developer and publisher Curve has also expressed disappointment in the Xbox One stating that Microsoft's approach "leaves Sony to capture the most innovative market in gaming right now."
