Today's Xbox One reveal was a huge disappointment to most, to put it mildly. Many wondered about the games, and while the event was designed primarily to showcase the hardware, many were clamoring to hear something, anything about software, to offset the deluge of sports, TV, and sports TV talk.
Games were addressed, albeit in an extremely limited capacity. It was mentioned that 15 exclusive games will grace the Xbox One, including 8 brand new IPs. We already have information about one such new property, Quantum Break from Black Tusk.
But what of these 7 other games, what are they about? Well, according to Polygon, one of them might be from Rare. And not only that, it could be based on a beloved fan favorite, a blast from the past, one hand picked to help get nostalgic gamers interested in the new console.
According to Microsoft Studios corporate vice president Phil Spencer:
"Fans of Rare and Rare IP I think will be pleased with what we're going to show at E3… We had a limited amount of time today and a lot of story to tell. But Rare remains an incredibly important part of our development capability.
That historic IP that they've built I think can play a real important role on Xbox One."
Back when the Xbox 360 launched, Rare dusted off Perfect Dark, which was originally for the Nintendo 64 and gave Joanna Dark a brand new adventure. Something similar might be happening, though it's anyone's guess as to what it might be.
The popular bet at the moment is a revival of Killer Instinct, but that's not the only old Rare IP that kids today should perhaps become acquainted with. Personally speaking, I was more of a Battletoads fan myself.
