Uninterrupted and seamless transitions prove a core focus for the Xbox One. And while many negative implications come with the mandatory installs of games, the more optimistic player can look at some of the positives.
After starting the mandatory install of disc based games, the Xbox One will allow players to "start playing immediately" without the need for a full install of the software. To keep the theme of uninterrupted play, updates will also install in the background.
Considering the relatively quick download and install of updates on the Xbox 360, this feature diminishes in its overall relative significance. As for the larger updates, most notably the 2GB updates with of every Battlefield 3 patch or DLC, the background install feature will download and apply updates automatically – a nightmare for people with limited bandwidth caps.
The feature replicates the functionality that Sony described in regards to the PlayStation 4 and its separate processor used for handling the download, enabling simultaneous play.
The install and immediate play feature comes from the Xbox One information page, detailing some of the console's core functions. The information page unfortunately only specifies the immediate play of games while installing off discs, not during download of digital titles.
