Sure, plenty of us are still waiting for the latest in the Alan Wake franchise, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still get excited for a new IP from the talented folks at Remedy Entertainment. Instead of revealing Alan Wake 2 at today’s Xbox One event, Microsoft showcased the latest project from the Finland-based developer, dubbed Quantum Break.
The reveal was a bit strange, as the first thing we saw was actually real, live people. Instead of seeing gameplay or even CG footage, Quantum Break opened with what looked like some sort of television series scene. It’s possible that this could hint at a TV tie-in with the game, as the Xbox One is a console closely attached to live TV and other forms of media that aren't gaming. It would also make sense to choose Remedy as the group to head this project, since Alan Wake was quite the theatrical experience.
However, Remedy has not commented on this facet of the project quite yet. There was some footage of the game shown, though. This is, in fact, a video game meant to be played and not just watched, but we really don’t know what genre it resides in. It’s likely that it’ll be a third-person shooter with a focus on narrative, but for now, what we really have is just a name and a few pieces of footage.
