The US state of Rhode Island is looking to sell the assets of Curt Schilling's 38 Studios saying "there is interest" in the licenses of the folded developer and the IP for the studio's first and only game Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.
The court case taken by the state against Schilling and executives of the Rhode Island Development Corporation – which gave 38 Studios $75 million in loans – is set to begin on Wednesday this week.
In total, 38 Studios owes Rhode Island $130 million, the Providence Journal reports.
"Who knows what the value ultimately will be," commented Richard J. Land, one of the prosecuting lawyers. "But there is interest in the assets."
Last August Wedbush securities analyst Michael Pachter said he believes the Kingdoms of Amalur IP could be worth $20 million. None of the interested parties in question have been named. Reckoning was published by EA so they may be among the groups involved.
It has been suggested that 38 Studios covered up some of their financial dealings in order to secure the loans which brought them to Rhode Island, previously the developer had been located in Massschusetts.
