Apple has finally shown off their new iPad 2 today. Their new second-generation tablet has become thinner, faster, and has two video cameras. What's become the biggest surpise is how fast this tablet is shipping out. You can expect the tablet on store shelves in the United States on March 11.
The new iPad 2 is thinner than the first-generation model, only 8.8mm thick, which makes it even thinner than the iPhone 4. With it being thinner, you can also expect a weight difference, at just 1.3 pounds. The starting price is the same at $499 for the entry-level 16GB Wi-Fi only model.
The two cameras that are built into the iPad are located in the rear and front. Not only can you record vides, take pictures, but now you are able to perform FaceTime video chat. Apple has stocked the new iPad with a A5 dual-core processor which will offer up to 9 times faster graphics processing. With the new processor Apple made clear to everyone that the A5 will not have any greater power consumption than the previous A4 processor.
The second-generation iPad will also be available in two colors, black and white. These will also be available on both AT&T and Verizon 3G networks from the start.
Along with showing off the iPad 2, Apple has decided to show off some of the new accessories for their new tablet. A new accessory cable will give a HDMI video out to HDTVs for a 1080p high-definition output while charging the iPad. Another accessory announced was a magnetic "smart cover," in which covers the front of the device. Once the case is on the device, the iPad 2 will lock. Microfibers on the screen cover clean the iPad 2 display, while the magnets automatically align the cover on the screen.
The pricing of the cable will cost you $39 while the case has two versions. A polyurethane version will cost $39 while a leather version of the case will cost $69.
