Bethesda released a new video about The Elder Scrolls Online to talk about the game's exploration and crafting systems. Explained by Paul Sage, Creative Director, the game's world will be populated by a veritable host of crates and barrels filled with items, which unlike those in other games, will actually have uses as ingredients in the game's extensive crafting system.
"Right now you can take any one of these useless items that you find and it's going to be a part of a recipe—it's going to be a part of our crafting system," he says.
The crafting system is unlike any other system ever before seen in an MMORPG.
Although you'll go out into the world and explore, and find a variety of items to use in crafting, much of the system begins at home—or at least in the towns themselves.
"It starts right when you get up into the game. I can create something, I can craft something almost immediately," he says.
"There's more than crafting resources in the world. For instance, there's books that you find for the mages guild. There's also fishing, you can compete with your friends to catch the biggest fish and depending on the bait you can catch different fish."
There's also a variety of other items and points of interest to find in the world, which confer powers and upgrade your abilities.
Most interesting of all are the treasure chests hidden in secret places that you'll find out in the wilderness. Each of these chests have locks on them, that when you increase your skill in lockpicking, you'll get better and better gear for the more difficult chests.
Watch the video above, if you haven't already. The game is basically Skyrim Online and we can't wait to get our hands on the game.
