Miles Edgeworth and Trucy Wright Return in Ace Attorney 5

May 15, 2013 by David Nguyen

Edgeworth has never looked more dapper.

Scans of the latest Famitsu magazine reveal that two key characters are returning in Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies.

Sporting spiffy new glasses and a slightly longer coat, Miles Edgeworth is back in the courtroom. Edgeworth wasn’t present in the fourth Ace Attorney game, as he was studying overseas. The yang to Phoenix’s yin, Miles appears to be back as chief prosecutor. Considering that Ace Attorney 5 is focused around Phoenix Wright, it was to be expected that Edgeworth was going to make an appearance in some way, shape, or form. Does the inclusion of Edgeworth mean that Dick Gumshoe is set to make an appearance as well? I hope so! He was certainly a more lovable and dynamic detective than the blasé Ema Skye.

Also making a return is Trucy Wright, Phoenix’s adopted daughter. Considering her familial ties to Phoenix Wright and Apollo Justice, her appearance shouldn’t come as a surprise. And if Apollo is going to be a playable character, he needs a bumbling assistant (they’re always bumbling, aren’t they?). Unlike Apollo, Trucy looks to have (slightly) aged.

For those of you who can read Japanese (or just want to randomly click text and look at pretty characters), a Japanese demo for Ace Attorney 5 is available here. I was initially skeptical about the move from sprites to 3D models, but they are animated with just as much personality as in the previous games. If you get through the demo, you’ll be treated to the brand new trailer below.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies is out this July in Japan. A digital-only release is planned for North America and Europe this autumn.
