You know what Dead Island, Techland’s cooperative zombie adventure, has been missing this entire time? Hellhounds. The shambling undead and big, rusty trucks have been great and all, but fighting a legion of demonic warriors just sounds like way more fun than dealing with the pungent odor of rotting flesh. Thankfully, this Polish developer will be making that particular wish come true with its new, recently announced Hellraid.
Honestly, the title of the game does a pretty solid job of imparting just what exactly this project is all about. Hellraid is the other game Techland has been working on during the development cycle of Dead Island Riptide, and is described as a first-person, co-op “slasher” offering a single-player, story-driven campaign and a co-op multiplayer feature that throws up to four players against the armies of Hell. However, a competitive side of the game allows for all your friends to duke it out for the most points, rewards, and fame. The goal is to vanquish all the fiery foes on screen, but if you need to sacrifice one ally in the name of a higher point total, it may just be worth it.
As you can see from the above video, the project looks an awful lot like what’s been done in Dead Island. The melee combat almost mirrors the brutal, violent action of the popular zombie franchise, but the setting should provide for quite the unique experience. Hellraid will be releasing sometime this year, and will be available on the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
