Sony has today announced a new indie category for games on the PlayStation Store. The new field will be added to the North American store today and the European store tomorrow.
Over on the official PlayStation Blog it was noted that "This week, together with the Sony Network Entertainment team, we are happy to introduce a new indie game area to the PlayStation Store.
This is an exciting space where indie content can receive additional exposure. It's an opportunity to showcase the best of these great games for PS3 and PS Vita – and for this to be constantly refreshed with the latest releases and promotions. It's the first and best place to go for indie content (though of course content can still be found through the normal channels too)."
To coincide with the announcement VBlank Entertainment's Retro City Rampage is currently 50% off.
In recent months Sony has really pushed hard to bring indie developers to PlayStation platforms by waiving all game patch fees and approaching indie studios for input on the PlayStation 4's design. Sony's interest in indies has led to some harsh criticisms of Microsoft's relationship with these developers.
Nintendo has also recently relaxed its rules for indies, dropping the requirement that developers must have a dedicated studio.
