Kotaku reports that Hideo Kojima revealed on his radio show the reason the Metal Gear Solid Legacy Collection isn't coming to Xbox 360 is the memory size of that console's dual-layer DVD discs, which are 8GB, compared to 50GB for Blu-ray discs on PlayStation 3.
The Metal Gear Solid maestro's co-host on the radio show said it would take seven discs just to bring Metal Gear Solid 4 to the Xbox 360. "I'm sorry to say an Xbox 360 version isn't being released, the amount of data in MGS4 is just too enormous," Kojima added.
"I want to put it [The Legacy Collection] out [on the Xbox 360]. But we won't be releasing it. When it's the next [Xbox] console maybe we can release it. If we released a version on the Xbox 360 without MGS4, then it's not The Legacy Collection," he concluded.
The Metal Gear Solid Legacy Collection is set to be released on PS3 in June in North America, a European release has not yet been announced, and features pretty much every entry in the series to date. There have been consistent rumours that Microsoft will switch to Blu-rays for their next console, set to be revealed later this month, so hopefully XboxNext owners will be able to play Metal Gear Solid 4, and the Legacy Collection, at some point down the line.
Alternatively of course, Kojima may decide to release it digitally in the future.
