You know, bad guys don’t often get to tell their side of the story. Most people don't cause harm to others just because “it seemed fun at the time,” and Insomniac Games’ upcoming third-person shooter Fuse understands that. Sure, the main focus will be the four heroes of the cooperative adventure, but you can’t have any sort of solid story without a colorful cast of villains.
In Fuse, the “enemies” want to change the world. They want to take down governments, induce fear, and make the population feel “truly vulnerable.” That doesn’t exactly sound like the noblest of causes, but at least they have goals, right? They also understand that Dalton Brooks, Naya Deveraux, Isabelle "Izzy" Sinclair, and Jacob Kimble aren’t just going to bring them in peacefully. This is a mission where one party isn’t coming back alive, so when players hop into the world of Fuse, they should know it’s constantly a state of kill-or-be-killed.
Thankfully, this isn’t just a game about shooting enemies and upgrading guns. Insomniac Games hopes to show its narrative prowess with its first multiplatform game.
"I think it's easy to overlook the story and messages that are in a lot of games that may be perceived as purely combat," Insomniac Games president Ted Price said. "Fuse has a story-driven game and it asks the question, 'What happens when humans get their hands on this substance they were never supposed to have? How do people use and abuse unlimited power?'”
Players will just have to see if this all pans out when Fuse arrives on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 May 28.
