MINERVA: The Director’s Cut Proves That An Old Half Life 2 Mod Can Still Shine Many Years Later

April 30, 2013 by Matt Hawkins

And is it one tiny step towards Half-Life 2: Episode 3? Maybe? Possibly? Okay, probably not, but still…

It's a question that everyone has grown long tired of asking: when the heck is Half-Life 2: Episode 3 coming out? Seemingly never unfortunately. So once again, one must defer to the longstanding alternative, and that's to rely upon one of the many user generated mods to help fill the void.

And there are few that are as quite excellent, even brilliant some might say, as MINERVA. Long time Half-Life 2 players might recall the mod first hitting the scene some six years ago. Well, it's back, in a repackaged form: MINERVA: The Director's Cut.

Rock Paper Scissors, who is clearly a fan of the mod, has some key intel, though it's definitely something one must experience firsthand. Though one key detail worth repeating is how the mod's creator, Adam Foster, is now an employee at Valve.

So what does that mean exactly? Perhaps one step closer to an actual Half-Life 2: Episode 3? One can only dream (the impossible dream). In the meanwhile, MINERVA: The Director's Cut is a free download, though one needs Half-Life 2: Episode 1 to get it up and running.
