According to the LinkedIn profile of Activision's Ryan Wener, uncovered by Supperannuation, Bungie's upcoming new IP, Destiny, will feature "monetization modelling."
Wener is the project's managing director.
To date neither Bungie nor publisher Activision have confirmed monetization for the game but it does seem to be a likely feature for the connected shooter experience. While Wener's profile doesn't mention anything specific about how the controversial feature will be implemented or what it will be used for monetization will likely be prevalent in aestetic customization options such as armour and weapon design.
This will probably be in the form of microtransactions for certain aspects of your Destiny character's design though it could also lend to certain gameplay benefits as well.
Previously 343 Industries, which assumed control of the Halo franchise after Bungie split from Microsoft, said they were "looking at" microtransactions for the Xbox exclusive franchise.
Destiny is set to be Bungie's first game on PlayStation with both the PS3 and PS4 versions receiving exclusive content. The game will also be released on PC, Xbox 360 and the next Xbox. Destiny does not yet have a firm release date and will likely launch late 2013 or at some point in 2014.
Yesterday, Bungie said they still had "a lot of work" to do on the game.
