Variety reports that Ted, Battleship and Safe House producer Scott Stuber has been brought onboard by Epic to oversee the Gears of War movie.
Stuber will produce the movie as well as initiating the film's script with Epic's supervision. The movie does not yet have a writer, cast or even distributor although Universal has a first look deal with Stuber. Both Epic and Stuber will begin showcasing the title to studios.
The Gears movie has been in production since 2007 with Lord of the Rings maker New Line originally in charge. However, Epic and New Line parted ways due to 'creative differences' and the movie has been looking for a home ever since.
Epic begin meeting with producers six months ago to search for whom to give the project. The movie is believed to follow the path of the first game which was released in 2007 and the series had sold 19 million copies to date.
Other movie based adaptations which have struggled or failed to come together include Halo and BioShock, in part because game companies are generally unwilling to give up too much control over their IPs to movie studios.
Last month animated movies of Ratchet and Clank and Heavenly Sword were announced.
