Sony has published a new trailer for BEYOND: Two Souls, the upcoming game from Quantic Dream. The trailer was debuted at the 2013Tribeca Film Festival, so as you can imagine it looks even more like a film trailer than the others do. Despite the lack of gameplay footage, it's still definitely worth a watch; if you're interested in BEYOND: Two Souls, then you know that you're in for a very story-driven experience from the start. Though if you're trying to avoid all spoilers, don't watch or read any further, as some of the new scenes reveal a few more details about Jodie's life.
The trailer begins with Jodie in a phonebooth, calling Nathan Dawkins, the paranormal specialist played by Willem Dafoe. It seems she's gotten herself in some trouble, which seems like the story of her life from what we've seen so far. After that, we get a couple of clips of the fire scene we've already seen, and then Ellen Page begins to speak:
“Ever since I was born, I've been linked to an entity.”
The trailer explores a little more of her history. We get to see the woman who is presumably her mother, and a man who may be her father, though he's not particular nice to her, yelling that she's a monster when they leave her in Dawkins' care as a small child. It looks like she stays with Dawkins – or at least visits him frequently – for a few years, as we see her again as a teenager still taking part in his experiments.
The game will take players through several years of Jodie's life, and part of that will be a sexual relationship that doesn't seem to pan out well. Explosions, helicopters, police cars flying through the air, and Jodie holding a gun under her chin; this does look very film-like. Beyond: Two Souls is due to launch for PS3 on October 8. Does this trailer make you want to give it a try?
