Mario Kart World is the official 1st party launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2. Or, as some gamers like to refer to such things, it’s the “killer app” at release. This is the title that most people want to get so that they have something epic to play right at launch. Nintendo knew that this game was massive in all manner of ways, and as such, they did a special Nintendo Direct this morning that highlighted new and surprising details for gamers to witness. Shall we break down the highlights?
First, there are several new characters in Mario Kart World, including Gommba, Monty Mole, Spike, Cow, Ostrich, Baby Rosalina, Pauline, and more. So you’ll have plenty of options to choose from as you go on races that can have up to 24 players within it!
Speaking of those races, there are plenty of all-new courses scattered throughout the game’s interconnected world. Just as important, while there are “classic courses” for fans to enjoy, you’ll see them in revamped forms befitting the new style of the game. Part of that new style is being able to race from track to track, so the racing doesn’t stop until all the courses are reached and completed!
That’s a great segue to the “Free Roam” mode, which got a deeper dive in the Nintendo Direct. The new mode will let you take on each course and see just how expansive it is. There are challenges hidden within each one, and you can take on this “tour” either on your own or with friends! That’s right, you can meet up with other players in Free Roam mode and either race around or pose for special pictures.
If you’re looking for something to spice up the races, you’ll want to try out the new items, which include a Coin Shell to help you max out your coin collection, a Mega Mushroom to help you grow in size to squish enemies, the Hammer to throw at foes or line the course with obstacles, and even summoning Kamek to unleash some unpredictable magic!
Plus, as you would expect, there are some robust multiplayer options for you all to enjoy. You can divide up the 24-player roster into teams of six for truly massive battles or races. Not to mention, you can use the GameShare feature with up to three people on your system to ensure that everyone can play the game!
