Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection Detailed

April 23, 2013 by Matt Hawkins

It’s pretty much every single Metal Gear game out there. Almost.

We all knew it was coming, but now it has made officially official: Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection is coming to the PlayStation 3 in North America (as well as South).

So the next question remains: what exactly is this thing? That too has been answered, courtesy of Destructoid. And it's pretty much everything one would expect, plus a tad bit more.

Starting from the top is the original PlayStation 1 version of the original Metal Gear Solid, followed by the recently introduced Metal Gear Solid 2: HD Edition, Metal Gear Solid 3: HD Edition, and Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker: Peace Walker: HD Edition.

Plus, on top of all of that is the original Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions, Metal Gear Solid 4: Trophy Edition, and the original MSX Metal Gear games, no doubt lifted from the Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence release, from the PS2.

Along with the two Ashley Wood interactive comic books, Metal Gear Solid: Digital Graphic Novel and Metal Gear Solid 2: Bande Dessinée.

Quite clearly, that’s a whole lot of Metal Gear. But it’s not everything. The most notable absence is both Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops 1 & 2, but considering how both are PlayStation Portable exclusives, it’s understandable.

Then again, it would be nice to have both games be somewhat ported or emulated on the PS3, especially since the first is a significant part of the overall Metal Gear mythos.

And while we’re making wishes, it would also be nice to one day to re-experience both Metal Gear Solid: Ghost Babel, the Game Boy Color exclusive side story, and Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, the GameCube remake of the original MGS.

But those are pretty much Nintendo’s calls, and re-releases on their end would not be such a bad idea. Though if such a thing happens anyways, may as well throw in the US exclusive sequel to the original Metal Gear, Snake’s Revenge. Why not, right?

Finally, what about Metal Gear Acid, the digital card game based upon the further adventures of Solid Snake? Less said about them the better.

No details yet as it pertains to release date or price of Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection.
