On the back of today's news that a Ratchet and Clank movie is threatre bound in 2015 another Sony franchise, Heavenly Sword, is also getting the movie treatment with a direct-to-homevideo animated production.
A footnote to Variety's article on the Ratchet and Clank movie simply adds "In addition to 'Ratchet and Clank,' Blockade is also producing 'Heavenly Sword,' a CG-animated film that will be distributed direct-to-homevideo."
Heavenly Sword was created by DmC developer Ninja Theory and released exclusively on PS3 all the way back in 2007. The game starred fiery warrior Nariko who wielded a magical sword in order to defend her village against an evil tyrant. While a sequel was planned poor sales of the original meant it has never seen full production.
In 2008 Sony reportedly cancelled the game while Ninja Theory remarked "it's not something we're involved in."
Last year, concept art work for Heavenly Sword 2 emerged online featuring the Ravens and the Raven King, the antagonists of the first title, among a number of different characters and sets for the planned sequel.
