Star Trek: The Video Game, released to coincide with Paramount Pictures' Star Trek: Into Darkness, has received a launch trailer detailing some of the game's story.
We're told a group of scientists created a device known as the 'Helios machine', Helios was the Greek god of the sun, which is being used to build New Vulcan following the destruction of the planet through an artificial blackhole in the world's core in 2009's Star Trek.
Naturally, not everything goes according to plan as the gorn learn of the device and seek to gain control of it. The trailer sees Spock and Kirk in a variety of environments including an Enterprise bridge without gravity.
"It is at our darkest moments that true character is defined," the trailer's tagline says.
Star Trek: The Video Game launches tomorrow for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. The spin-off, a prequel to the events of Into Darkness, is not being developed as "a throwaway piece of merchandise" according to the game's senior vice-president of markeing Brian Miller.
Developer Digital Extremes has also released a trailer featuring the original Captain Kirk, William Shatner, playing against a gorn.
