Funcom and Swedish-based games outfit Bearded Ladies have hit the post-human Earth ground running with Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden, a brand new tactical expedition. On the development team are former Hitman and Payday designers (Ulf Andersson), so as you’d expect, there’s a good blend of stealthy action.
You can also see the wild inspirational brushstrokes of Conan Exiles in the cast, which includes an irate boar and a duck with an attitude problem. I’m under the impression this is what Daffy Duck and Porky Pig would look like after hanging out with the X-Men for long enough. Along the course of the game, you can unlock mutations and new abilities for your characters, like charge, sneak and stoneskin.
“Nothing says post-human quite like a mutated boar in spiked metal armor charging at you with a blunderbuss in his hands.” ~ MYZRTE Steam page
Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden combines XCOM‘s turn-based combat with the element of surprise: real-time stealth lets you stick to the shadows, sneak into enemy lodgings, and gain a tactical advantage. Like all good sneak ’em ups, you can use the environment to your benefit. Blast destructible walls to unleash chaos. Dodge the floodlights and enemy viewcones. Once the battle’s over, you can take a breath of fresh air by exploring dilapidated neon cities, the perfect opportunity to stock up on loot and other essentials before your next mission.
Those interested can wishlist Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden on Steam today. The game is expected to release sometime in 2018 for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
