When Destiny was first announced earlier this year, the game was relatively well received by the press but took no small amount of criticism for its aged look, especially on current-generation consoles like the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
Touted as the "next Halo", the game looked underwhelming despite the size and scale of its environments, possibly due to the graphical constraints of the hardware it was showcased on. To state a point, the environments looked sparse.
Bungie appears to be aware of the criticism the game's visuals received and has assured that the game will look "awesome" regardless of whether it's playing on the PlayStation 4, next-gen Xbox, PS3, or Xbox 360.
Speaking to X360 Magazine, the game's design director Joseph Staten says that the world will be fleshed out with a lot more details than previously showcased. Bungie will have more to show of Destiny at the upcoming E3 2013, which takes place this coming June in Los Angeles.
In addition to his promise, Staten discussed the issue of cross-play performance and how it will impact the game.
"Any time you get your hands on new hardware you’re going to try and take advantage of everything it has to offer," he said. "I know coming up at E3 we’ll be talking more about the specific features, but just like with any hardware leap, absolutely, we’re going to push this game as far [as] it can be pushed on whatever platform.
"It’s going to look great on PS3, it’ll look awesome on 360, and it’ll look great on PS4 as well. You can bet that no matter where we are, we’re going to make the game look great."
Well, let's just hope he's right.
